Canon 20D Body Only. The kit lens is pretty gnarly, best to just save your $100 and buy a 50mm F/1.8 instead. Worth noting that EOS 1D Mark I's can be found used for the same price...

Canon 350D Body only. Going with only primes, you need two bodies. Maybe consider a used 10D as they around $700 used.

Your 20D paired with this is wider than any rectilinear setup with the 1D Mark II. There are a few other options for ultra-wide rectilinear lenses : Tamrom 11-18mm, Sigma 10-20mm, and various 12-24mm.

Everyone needs a 'fun' lens! Should note the $200 Peleng 8mm and $100 Zenitar 16mm Fisheyes are worth checking out; as is the $150 Lensbaby 2.0

The EF 35mm f/1.4L has competition - at half the price!

One of Canon's most coveted lenses - and with good reason!

Everyone needs a 50mm prime. I prefer this to the f/1.8 - which is almost 1/5 the price - because of FTM focus, and a metal mount. The 50mm f/1.8 Mark I has a metal plate, but it is nearly $200 used..

My favourite lens. For the same price, you could instead get a 50mm f/1.8, 85mm f/1.8 and a 135 f/2.0! The bokeh, and sharpness wide-open, however, is worth it...

Often said to be one of Canon's sharpest lens. Great for short telephoto.

Buy new: $1,300.00
Great macro, doubles as a telephoto. Personally, I'd go for the Sigma 150mm f/2.8 at half the price (optically identical).

Amazing lens for the price. Sharp, contrasty and fast.

Buy new: $1,140.00
Slow. Very sharp, very light and very cheap (comparatively). If I could afford it, I'd go for the 500mm f/4L IS over this. However, I could buy an extra five outstanding lenses for that same price. =)

Good for macro, increased focal length without increasing minimum focusing distance.

Buy new: $295.21
Pair this with the 400mm on a 1.6x crop DSLR, and you've a 1280mm f/11. No AF though. :P

A macro lens is a must for me, and this lens has a nice 5x lifesize magnification at a reasonable price, making it the reason I chose Canon over Nikon.

RSS macro ring or dualie Wimberley Macro Brackets are killer with this.

Sometimes ISO 3200 and wide open on your f/1.2 just isn't enough...

The grips don't afford you as much battery life as they could - I prefer just swapping batteries. If I needed the bigger body, I'd go for a $1500 used EOS 1D.

Need a way to store all of your photos while on walkabout. The PD7X looked promising, but from what I've read the Epsons are more reliable.Too bad most stand-alone data storage has poor battery life.

Need a way to carry it all! The Kata HB-207 looks pretty sweet, too. The Mountainsmith Paragon, while great, is only large enough for day hikes - wouldn't take it on a worldwide walkabout for a year.

Need quick access to gear to catch those spur-of-the-moment shots - messenger or topload bags rock. Crumpler has blown me away with its quality, not to mention neato-factor! I also use the Kata T-212.
